The Miller Music Shell in Wallnut Hill Park. Of all the changes that have occured in the city, the parks have remained unchanged since they were designed. (Fred Hedeler)

The Civil War monument has been the focal point of Central Park since 1900. Designed by Ernest Flagg, the 44 ft tall monument is topped by a gilden statue of winged Victory, based off of a statue found in Pompeii, Italy. Although the park has been cut down to allow for more traffic, the park has changed little, save for the lack of trollies passing by. (Gordon Alling)

The infamous Embassy Theater, a movie-goers delight in New Britain, closed its doors in the summer of 1964. No movie theater has yet returned to the city. (Herald photograph file)

Nine years before he was elected Pope Paul II, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla visited New Britain to meet with his friend, Msgr. John P. Wodarski. Karol recieved a key to the city on his visit. (Local History Room/NBPL)

The city's annual Main St. USA celebration is a time for all residents of the city to come together to celebrate the city and the nation. Many festivities have remained the same since it began in 1976. (Herald photograph file)
